The 2024 Vision Pasifika Media Awards, themed Cleaner Pacific, were officially launched by Niue’s Prime Minister, Dalton Tagelagi, at the 7th Pacific Media Summit. The awards highlight the need to address plastic pollution in the Pacific region.
Facilitated by the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), with support from Australia and the Pacific Islands News Association (PINA), the awards celebrate excellence in environmental journalism. Prime Minister Tagelagi emphasized the media’s role in promoting awareness about waste management and pollution, saying, “We all have a role in conserving our environment and building resilience.”
The awards will honor exceptional content across television, radio, online platforms, print media, and student journalism. Submissions are open until April 2025, with winners receiving USD$1000.
SPREP Director General Sefanaia Nawadra stated, “This year’s awards will celebrate stories that raise awareness and spark action on plastic pollution, a critical issue for our planet.”
