Tonga Police now have upgraded PPE, lab kits for crime‑scene analysis, fingerprinting tools and a stretcher, after Australian Federal Police (AFP) handed over the equipment in Nuku’alofa.
AFP also provided portable command‑base supplies—tables, marquees, generators and lighting—to support lengthy investigations and emergency responses across Tonga.

Commissioner Turner described the assistance as integral to “detect, disrupt, investigate and prosecute offenders while serving their community”.
A major IT package includes 64 desktop bundles, servers and UPS units, enabling the shift from paper records to a secure electronic and digital‑video system nationwide.
The handover was led by Tonga Police Commissioner Geoff Turner, appointed in May following Shane McLennan’s return to AFP. The delivery deepens Australia’s long‑running Tonga–Australia Policing Partnership (TAPP), active since 2006 to boost national security, family‑violence response and crime prevention.
AFP support in Tonga has included radio systems, medical and cyber facilities, and cyber‑safety training in recent years.
