Australia has donated three vehicles to the Ministry of Health (MOH) in Tonga on Friday, a gesture in strengthening the country’s healthcare services.
The vehicles were handed over by the Australian High Commission in Tonga as part of the Tonga Health Systems Support Program Phase 3 (THSSP3). Two of the vehicles will be sent to the Mu’a Health Center, while the third will support the Mental Health Unit.
Health Minister, Hon. Dr. ‘Ana ‘Akau’ola, expressed gratitude for Australia’s ongoing support, saying, “Australia’s continuous support has meant that we here at the Ministry can dream big.” She added that the partnership has helped the MOH access more resources to improve healthcare services.
Australia’s First Secretary for Development in Tonga, Ms. Alison Gow, highlighted the importance of mental health, stating, “In Australia, we have a saying: It’s not weak to speak. We hope that these vehicles will help you to reach the communities you serve.” She also reaffirmed Australia’s commitment to continued collaboration in the next phase of the health program.

In addition to the vehicle donation, Australia is also funding public awareness campaigns to help fight the ongoing dengue fever outbreak, ensuring communities are informed on how to protect themselves.
