An Australian woman was restrained with duct tape on a Fiji Airways flight from San Francisco to Nadi after becoming intoxicated and disruptive, according to reports.
The 69-year-old passenger allegedly hurled objects, used offensive language, and slapped a flight attendant during the incident on flight FJ871. Despite her husband’s attempts to calm her, the situation escalated, leading crew members to restrain her and tape her mouth shut.
Upon arrival in Nadi on January 20, she was arrested and charged under the Fiji Civil Aviation Act for being an unruly passenger. She was released on bail after paying a fine.
Fiji Airways emphasized its zero-tolerance policy for such behavior, stating that the safety and well-being of passengers and crew are paramount.
The Fiji Police confirmed the woman’s intoxicated state during the flight and are conducting an investigation into the incident.
