The Chinese government has released a report on the progress of the Global Security Initiative (GSI), highlighting achievements since its inception. The report, presented at the launch ceremony of the Center for Global Security Initiative Studies in July, provides a systematic review of the initiative’s impact and progress.
In a written speech at the event, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasised the importance of the report in helping all parties understand the GSI’s practical significance and unique value as an international public good in the field of security. Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, noted the initiative’s role in addressing security challenges and maintaining global stability amid a chaotic world.
The Center for Global Security Initiative Studies, based on the China Institute of International Studies, was established to enhance research, support the initiative’s implementation, and contribute to world peace and security, Wang noted.
The report, co-released by the China Institute of International Studies and the new center, highlights the GSI’s broad support from over 100 countries and various international and regional organizations. It mentions that the initiative and its core concepts have been incorporated into more than 90 bilateral and multilateral documents, gaining praise from international figures and influential media, thus forming a global consensus.
The report recommends ongoing dialogue and exchanges on global security concerns to continuously enrich the GSI’s concept and connotation. It also calls for expanded bilateral and multilateral security cooperation, innovative cooperation methods, commitment to peace talks on international and regional issues, and the upholding of true multilateralism.
