China has initiated extensive military exercises encircling Taiwan, involving its army, navy, air force, and rocket units. These drills are viewed as a stern warning against Taiwan’s pursuit of independence.
A spokesperson from China’s Eastern Theater Command stated that the operations aim to “close in on Taiwan Island from multiple directions.” The duration of these exercises remains unspecified.
In response, Taiwan’s Defense Ministry reported the detection of 19 Chinese vessels, including the aircraft carrier Shandong, near its waters. Taiwan has deployed its military assets to monitor and counter these maneuvers.
Taiwan’s Presidential Office condemned China’s actions, highlighting the exercises as a significant threat to regional stability. The office reaffirmed Taiwan’s commitment to maintaining its democratic and sovereign status.
These developments occur shortly after U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s visit to the region, during which he emphasized countering China’s assertiveness concerning Taiwan.
