A six-member Chinese medical team has completed free health screenings for Public Service Commission staff.
The PSC’s CEO, Keni Tu’uhetoka, invited China’s fifth medical mission and Dr Semisi Latu to deliver comprehensive physical exams to all PSC personnel.

The medical experts carried out blood pressure, blood sugar, ultrasound, ECG, finger pulse oximetry, sleep disorder and psychological counselling. Based on results, they offered tailored advice and emphasised “early diagnosis and treatment” to improve staff well‑being.
This mission follows a wider outreach by the same team. Earlier this year they conducted similar screenings at the Royal Palace Office—marking their first visit there—and for more than 60 palace staff.
They also took laparoscopic surgery to Vaiola Hospital in May, performing Tonga’s first ovarian tumour removal via minimally invasive methods.
Since arriving in July 2024, the team has offered free services to communities including HM Prison staff, the Prime Minister’s Office, and Ma’ufanga offices on Vava’u and ’Eua.
Health officials hope the initiative encourages broader participation, enabling more Tongans to access early detection services—and reducing the burden of chronic disease.
The team is expected to continue rotating through government offices and island communities over coming months, with further clinics and specialised procedures planned.
