On Saturday, tens of thousands of evangelical Christians converged on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., for the “Million Women” rally, aimed at praying for America’s atonement and Donald Trump’s return to the White House. Organizers framed the event as a “last stand moment” to combat perceived forces of darkness in the upcoming presidential election.
Attendees, adorned in “Make America Great Again” hats and waving flags, sang worship songs while fervently praying for divine intervention on behalf of Trump. “If we don’t stand now,” stated Grace Lin from Los Angeles, “the enemy will take over our country.”
Lou Engle, the event’s organizer and self-described prophet, emphasized that God instructed him to gather women to reclaim America for Christianity. Speakers raised alarms about various issues, including crime, religious persecution, and LGBTQ rights, with many participants donning pink shirts that read “Don’t Mess With Our Kids,” representing anti-LGBTQ sentiments.
The event attracted a diverse crowd, with many Black churches participating. Despite concerns about political division among attendees, some, like LaTrece Curry, remained steadfast in their belief that Trump is the moral choice for the nation. “I do think it is a last stand,” Curry remarked, emphasizing the urgency of their mission.
