Prime Minister Dr. ‘Aisake Eke announced that the government intends to rehabilitate district health centres across the nation as part of government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and ensuring better access to medical services for all Tongans.
During a press conference last Friday, Eke emphasized the initiative as a top priority for his administration.
“Repair all health centres and let them provide essential services such as dentistry to people can visit them easily instead of having to travel to the main hospital in Nuku’alofa,” he said.
The Prime Minister highlighted that enhancing local healthcare facilities would alleviate the burden on the main hospital and improve access to essential services for residents.
This initiative is particularly timely as Tonga grapples with a dengue outbreak.
Eke added, “This way it can help with the current dengue outbreak in Tonga, close for people to visit.”
