Excitement filled ‘Ohonua as construction for the long-awaited Community Hall officially began yesterday. Town Officer Tukuange Takai, Uasila’a Lolomana’ia, Manager of the Ministry of Infrastructure’s ‘Eua Branch, and project Supervisor Semisi Fifita signed the final agreement for land release to contracted builders.
The hall is set to be completed in 28 weeks, marking a significant milestone for residents relocated after the 2022 Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai tsunami, which devastated homes and displaced many families.

Semisi Fifita said, “The families are settling well into their new locations and actively developing their daily lifestyles.” The Tongan government provided free housing and land to affected families, ensuring their safety.
The new Community Hall will serve as an important space for gatherings and events, fostering unity and resilience in the community.
