Federal buildings across the US are stripping COVID-19 signage.
The Trump administration has ordered the removal of COVID-related signs and websites from federal agencies, replacing them with a new White House page titled “Lab Leak: The True Origins of COVID-19.”
The updated site draws from the Republican-led Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic’s 2023 report, which accuses former health officials, including Dr Anthony Fauci and former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, of mishandling the pandemic.
A screenshot of the page was posted by Donald Trump’s campaign with the caption: “TRUMP WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING!”
For two years, COVID.gov and COVIDTests.gov offered free test kits and vaccine information. Those now redirect to the new page, which does not include testing resources.
An HHS spokesperson confirmed, “We are in the process of updating web pages accordingly.”
The General Services Administration also issued a memo dated April 8 directing all agencies to remove COVID signs and install official portraits of President Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance.
“This memorandum also advises all agencies to remove all COVID-related signage from federally owned buildings and leased space,” the memo stated.
The public health emergency declaration officially ended on May 11, 2023.
