The week-long Defensive Readiness and Cyber Security Exercise Program aimed to strengthen the cybersecurity capacity of critical infrastructure organizations in Tonga ended yesterday at the Tanoa International Dateline Hotel in Nuku’alofa.
The workshop was co-hosted by Tonga’s Computer Response Team (CERT Tonga) under the Ministry of MEIDECC and the Government of Australia.
Participants engaged in interactive cybersecurity exercises that introduced key incident concepts and covered essential incident response principles. This hands-on format provided valuable opportunities to enhance knowledge and technical skills in preparation for potential cyberattacks.
A special thanks was extended to Retrospect Labs, led by Mr. Rory Coulter, for their key role in facilitating the cybersecurity exercises in collaboration with CERT Tonga Director ‘Esau Tupou.
The opening of the event featured a keynote address by Hon. Fekitamoeloa ‘Utoikamanu, the Minister responsible for CERT Tonga. Other notable attendees included HE Ms. Erin Gleeson, Acting Australian High Commissioner to Tonga, Rt. Hon. Linda Folaumoetu’i, Attorney General, Police Commissioner Shane McLennan, and Acting CEO of MEIDECC, Mr. Mafua Maka.
The program reflects the Government’s strategies in strengthening Tonga’s cybersecurity readiness.
