The tropical cyclone warning for Tongatapu and ‘Eua has been lifted as Ex-Tropical Cyclone Rae weakens.
Now classified as a tropical disturbance, it is located about 510 km south-southwest of Nuku’alofa, moving southeast at 28 km/h.
Warnings for heavy rain and flash flooding in Tonga have been canceled. The gale warning has been downgraded to a strong wind warning, though a small craft advisory remains in effect.
Meanwhile, there are two active cyclones in the South Pacific in addition to Cyclone Bianca. This is the first time since 1999 for three cyclones happening all at the same time in the Pacific region.
Tropical Cyclone Alfred is strengthening in the Coral Sea and could impact Queensland. Cyclone Seru, near Fiji, remains a threat with heavy rain and strong winds. Severe Cyclone Bianca, west of Australia, is weakening.
