Nine new envoys presented credentials to King Tupou VI at Tonga’s Diplomatic Week, solidifying ties.
Diplomatic Week 2025 ran from 19–20 June, during which newly accredited Ambassadors and High Commissioners officially presented Letters of Credence to His Majesty the King, a diplomatic prerequisite marking the beginning of a posting.

Headlining the ceremony were envoys from the Republic of Korea, Philippines, Ireland, the Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Cyprus, Canada and the Czech Republic. Each met first with King Tupou VI before calling on His Royal Highness Crown Prince Tupouto‘a ʻUlukalala, who serves as Foreign and Defence Minister.
Diplomatic Week offers “opportunities to cultivate long lasting and strong partnerships” between Tonga and these nations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated . Tonga’s active foreign policy is steered by Crown Prince Tupouto‘a ʻUlukalala, himself an envoy at recent China–Pacific Foreign Ministers’ meetings.
Crown Prince Tupouto‘a ʻUlukalala was appointed Foreign Minister in January, part of Prime Minister ‘Aisake Eke’s cabinet reshuffle.
