Naunau ‘o e ‘Alamaite Tonga (NATA) has opened its new office in Nuku’alofa, marking a significant step for disability advocacy.
On 10 April 2025, NATA, a disability-led non-government organisation, inaugurated its new headquarters on Hekoni Road, Maufanga. The event was officiated by Australian High Commissioner to Tonga, His Excellency Brek Batley, underscoring Australia’s commitment to supporting inclusive initiatives in the Pacific.

Established in 2004, NATA has been instrumental in advocating for the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities in Tonga. The new office space is expected to enhance NATA’s capacity to deliver programs and services aimed at empowering individuals with disabilities.
High Commissioner Batley highlighted the importance of such collaborations, stating, “Locally-led is best, and we’re especially proud of this project as it reflects our shared commitment to inclusivity and community empowerment.”
The Australian Government has a longstanding partnership with Tonga, focusing on areas including economic development, health, and disability support. This collaboration with NATA is part of broader efforts to promote equality and accessibility across the region.

NATA’s new facility represents a milestone in its mission to foster an inclusive society where individuals with disabilities can thrive and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
