Tonga Police arrested a 38‑year‑old from Ngele‘ia on Tuesday, charging him with possession of illicit drugs and drug utensils.
The operation saw the seizure of methamphetamine, cannabis and various drug‑related items, marking a significant success in law enforcement’s efforts to curb illegal substances in Tonga.
“This operation underscores Tonga Police’s continued commitment to removing illegal drugs from our communities,” stated Police in the media release, urging the public to contact authorities with any drug‑related information .
Last week, police also dismantled a retail meth network, sentencing 32‑year‑old Maamafo‘ou Movete to 4½ years in prison for importing and supplying methamphetamine. In early June, a 21‑year‑old probationary constable was arrested after meth was found during a targeted DEU traffic stop in Nuku‘alofa.
Drug squad raids in April uncovered large cannabis caches and multiple arrests across Tongatapu, reflecting intensified enforcement efforts.
The most recent arrest highlights the police’s ongoing zero‑tolerance policy. Authorities thank the community for support and again encourage reporting via 740‑1657 or 922.
