Digicel Tonga launched its 5G network with the inaugural E-Sport Pacific Championship, a competitive gaming tournament showcasing the popular game PUBG Mobile at the Digicel Square yesterday.
The event attracted many PUBG gamers, most of whom were teenagers, who packed the stage in front of the large screen displaying the PUBG gaming screen they were competing on.
“This event is shaping the future of connectivity and entertainment in Tonga,” Digicel said in a statement.

The tournament featured a $5,000 prize pool, with $2,500 for the champion, $1,500 for the runner-up, and $1,000 for third place.
Winners will also receive airfare and accommodation to represent Tonga in the Fiji Championship, fully covered by Digicel.
Participants were required to bring their own PUBG-ready phones and follow strict gaming rules to ensure fair play.

The competition format included group and winner stages, with points awarded for placements and eliminations.
Digicel’s 5G launch and esports initiatives highlights its commitment to technological innovation and youth engagement in Tonga.
