Tongan farmers will tap into new trade opportunities with New Zealand this week.
A two-day workshop and mini trade forum will be held from May 27–28 in Nukuʻalofa, bringing together local producers and key New Zealand stakeholders to strengthen Tonga’s fresh produce exports.
The Path 2 Market Workshop and Mini Trade Forum, hosted by Pacific Trade & Invest New Zealand (PT\&I NZ) in partnership with the Government of Tonga, the New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI), and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT), will offer Tongan growers and exporters practical tools to enhance trade capabilities.
“This is about helping Tongan producers not only access markets, but engage with them more effectively,” said Glynis Miller, PT\&I NZ Trade Commissioner. “By bringing New Zealand importers to Tonga, we’re creating real opportunities for growth and connection.”
The forum, set for May 27 at the Tanoa Hotel, will feature panel discussions on trade policy, logistics, compliance, and a speed networking session. The workshop on May 28 at Tonga High School Gymnasium will provide insights into New Zealand’s fresh produce market, supply chain standards, and tools to ensure long-term trade success.
Key New Zealand importers Fresh Direct and Healthy n Fresh will join the event and visit farms and export facilities across Tonga from May 26–31 to assess sourcing opportunities and deepen trade ties.
