Odys Aviation, a developer of hybrid-electric vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) vehicles, has partnered with Fiji Airways to provide flying vehicles for transporting medical supplies and cargo across Fiji’s 330 islands. The agreement, formalized through an expression of interest (EOI), aims to address infrastructure challenges by utilizing Odys’ runway-independent vehicles.
The Odys Laila VTOL can carry cargo up to 400 miles, potentially opening new emergency medical routes across the South Pacific. Fiji Airways plans to use these vehicles not only for cargo but also to partner with logistics and government agencies to support regional operations.
“This partnership expands Fiji Airways’ commercial operations and drives future investment in sustainable travel for the people of Fiji,” said Andre Viljoen, CEO of Fiji Airways.
Odys, founded in 2019 in Long Beach, California, is developing hybrid-electric vehicles designed to carry nine passengers and two pilots. The company recently teamed up with Honeywell to design ground control stations, further advancing their push towards sustainable aviation and improved connectivity in the Pacific region.
“We’re excited to collaborate with Fiji Airways to realize the benefits of a more connected ecosystem across the region,” said James Dorris, CEO of Odys Aviation.
