Fiji police are investigating allegations of theft and sexual assault involving two Virgin Australia crew members in Nadi on New Year’s Day.
Deputy Prime Minister Viliame Gavoka confirmed that the incidents occurred in the city’s nightclub area on Wednesday. “The alleged incidents are regrettable,” Gavoka said. “There were two separate alleged incidents, one being alleged theft and the other being alleged sexual assault, which affected two different crew members.”
A suspect connected to the sexual assault has been questioned, with the investigation ongoing. The affected crew members, currently staying at a local hotel, are set to return home after assisting with the police inquiry. Virgin Australia has sent representatives to Fiji to support the staff involved.
Gavoka urged caution in nightclub areas, noting that such incidents can occur anywhere. “We remind tourists to exercise caution in nightclub areas and late at night,” he added.
