Eighteen students from Tupou College are taking Tonga’s first Australian-accredited Form 7 exams, known as the Higher School Certificate (HSC).
This makes Tupou College one of only two Pacific schools offering the HSC, typically used in New South Wales.
This milestone highlights both Tonga-Australia educational ties and Tupou College’s pioneering role in the Pacific region.
Since 2018, Tupou College has offered this curriculum in partnership with Newington College in Sydney, which helped establish the College’s International Stream.
Successful students will receive a certificate recognized by Australian universities and employers, opening new academic and career pathways.
Kathryn Pereira, the Australian Support Person for the program, said that the students are progressing well and that the HSC program will continue annually.
The exams, currently in their third week, are set to finish on November 8.
‘Atenisi College at the ‘Atenisi Institute also provided students with the opportunity to complete both the New South Wales (NSW) School Certificate for Year 10 and the Higher School Certificate (HSC) for Year 12.
