The Tonga Talas achieved their first win in the 2025 PacificAus Sports Netball Series, defeating the Fiji Pearls 71-47 on yesterday at Nissan Arena in Brisbane, Australia.
The Talas, four-time Pacific Netball Series champions since 2022, dominated the match. They led 17-13 after the first quarter and extended their advantage to 36-22 by halftime. Maintaining their momentum, they secured the win with a final score of 71-47.
This victory follows two narrow losses for the Talas: a 56-58 defeat to the First Nations on February 17 and a 52-55 loss to Samoa on February 18.
The Fiji Pearls, despite a determined effort, struggled to match Tonga’s clinical performance. Fiji’s shooting accuracy was 81%, compared to Tonga’s 88%. This loss marks Fiji’s third consecutive defeat in the series.
Looking ahead, the Talas are set to face Scotland today, February 20, at 10.00 pm Tonga time. The PacificAus Sports Netball Series 2025 ends this Saturday.
