In Suva, Fiji, hundreds of Tongans gathered at the Api Tonga Church and Suva Civic Centre from October 25th to 27th to mark Tonga Day with a celebration of culture, heritage, and community.
Organized as a three-day event, the festivities featured traditional Tongan delicacies, handicrafts, and various stalls run by students and children selling items like BBQ, sausage sizzles, cakes, and desserts, as reported by Fijivillage News.
As part of the event, a Tongan medical team of three doctors provided free health checks for attendees. The medical outreach aimed to support the Tongan community in Fiji by offering accessible healthcare during the celebrations.
WOWS Kids Fiji Founder, Sina Kami, shared her pride with Fijivillage News, saying, “Every year around the world, Tongans gather to celebrate this day. I’m glad our people have shown so much love and respect, uniting to honor our culture and heritage in Fiji.”
The celebrations ended with a combined service led by Archbishop Sione Uluilakeba at the Anglican Church on Sunday, bringing the community together for a final act of unity and reflection on their shared heritage.
The last Tonga Day in Suva was back in 2013.
