Tongan consumers will see a 10 seniti per litre drop in fuel prices starting 1 May 2025.
The Ministry of Trade and Economic Development announced that the Tonga Competent Authority (TCA) has approved new retail prices for May. Petrol will decrease to $3.20 per litre, kerosene to $2.45, and diesel to $3.25.
This reduction follows a period of fluctuating fuel costs. In April, wholesale petroleum prices decreased, though retail prices for petrol and kerosene remained unchanged, while diesel saw a slight drop. Earlier in February, petrol and kerosene prices held steady, with diesel increasing marginally.
The TCA adjusts fuel prices monthly, considering global oil market trends and domestic factors. The recent price drop offers some relief to consumers amid broader economic challenges.
Earlier this year, the government allocated $525,000 to support the Ministry’s capacity for price monitoring and regulation. This funding aims to enhance oversight of essential goods and services, including petroleum products.
The Ministry encourages consumers to remain informed about fuel price changes and to report any discrepancies to ensure fair trade practices.
