Tongan motorists will see fuel prices drop from 3 June, easing pressure on household budgets.
The Ministry of Trade and Economic Development announced that the Tonga Competent Authority (TCA) has approved new retail prices for June 2025. Petrol and diesel prices in Tongatapu will decrease by 10 and 15 seniti respectively, both settling at $3.10 per litre. Kerosene will also drop by 15 seniti to $2.30 per litre.
This marks the second consecutive month of fuel price reductions. In May, petrol fell to $3.20 and diesel to $3.25 per litre, following a period of fluctuating costs. The TCA adjusts prices monthly, factoring in global oil trends and domestic considerations.
The Ministry’s press release stated: “The Ministry of Trade and Economic Development wishes to advise that the Tonga Competent Authority (TCA) has approved the new petroleum prices for June to be effective on Tuesday 3rd of June 2025.”
Global factors contributing to the price drop include a decline in crude oil prices, which reached a two-month low due to easing Middle East tensions, a weaker economic outlook, and increased inventories in major economies.
The TCA’s monthly reviews aim to ensure fair pricing and protect consumers from volatile international markets. The latest reductions offer some relief amid ongoing economic challenges.
