Petrol prices in Tongatapu remain steady at $3.25 per litre in January 2025, while kerosene and diesel have increased to $2.45 and $3.20 per litre, respectively.
The new prices, approved by the Tonga Competent Authority (TCA), take effect on Thursday, January 2.
The approved wholesale and retail prices vary by location. In Ha’apai, petrol will cost $3.55 per litre, while in Vava’u, the price is set at $3.30. Niuafo’ou has the highest petrol price at $4.05 per litre.
Compared to December, kerosene has risen from $2.40 and diesel from $3.15, reflecting changes in global oil markets.
In a statement, the Ministry of Trade and Economic Development said: “These will be the maximum prices allowable for PMS (Petrol), ADO (Diesel) and DPK (Kerosene) for Tongatapu, ‘Eua, Ha’apai, Vava’u and Niuas.”
The TCA reviews petroleum prices monthly to ensure fair consumer pricing while aligning with international trends.
