A fuel shortage in Vava’u has disrupted transport and daily activities since last Friday.
Neiafu Town Officer Vava Lapota reported that the shortage became apparent when vehicles lined up at petrol stations to share the remaining fuel. Vava’u has five petrol stations, all of which have been affected.
The petroleum supplier, Pacific Energy, attributed the issue to oil tankers delayed by bad weather, with arrivals expected this week.
The shortage has impacted travel to schools and workplaces, causing widespread concern among residents.
This situation highlights the vulnerability of remote islands like Vava’u to supply chain disruptions, especially concerning essential commodities like fuel.
Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and urge residents to stay informed about fuel availability.
