Dr. Taniela Fusimalohi, People’s Representative for ‘Eua 11, has urged an audit of the outgoing government’s budget as a priority for ‘Aisake Eke’s administration.
Fusimalohi’s proposal supports Prime Minister ‘Aisake Eke’s new administration that has pledged to prioritize infrastructure, address traffic congestion, and reduce electricity costs.
Speaking during Tuesday’s parliamentary vote for Prime Minister, Fusimalohi, a supporter of Eke, highlighted concerns over expenditures by the Sovaleni government. He cited spending on road and building projects.
“The audit will ensure transparency and accountability in how public funds were managed,” Fusimalohi said, stressing the importance of scrutinizing past budgets.
The call also aligns with Eke’s broader push for transparency and governance reforms, including protecting whistleblowers and tackling corruption.
The anticipated audit signals a shift towards greater financial accountability in Tonga’s government, as Eke’s leadership takes shape.
