Seven Tongan delegates are participating in the UK’s Strategic Leadership Program in Suva, Fiji, from 3rd to 7th March 2025.
Hosted by the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom, this annual five-day course aims to enhance strategic leadership and foster regional networking among emerging senior leaders across government sectors.
The program brings together participants from Fiji, Vanuatu, Tuvalu, Solomon Islands, and Papua New Guinea, reflecting the UK’s commitment to the Pacific region.
The Tongan delegation comprises of seniors officials from the various government ministries including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, His Majesty’s Armed Forces, Tonga Police, Disaster Risk Management Office, Tonga Fire & Emergency Services and His Majesty’s Prisons
Paul Welsh, UK Deputy High Commissioner to Fiji, highlighted the importance of strategic awareness and collaboration, saying, “We need to lift our heads and scan the horizon to spot potential problems and opportunities.”
The Strategic Leadership Programme, delivered by the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom with support from Cranfield University, has been conducted in various countries, including Fiji, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, aiming to assist leaders with the challenges of complex decision-making.
