Around 60 participants gathered at the Tanoa International Dateline Hotel in Nuku’alofa on Saturday 21 June to mark International Yoga Day.
The event, themed “One Earth, One Health,” was jointly organised by the Indian High Commission, Fiji’s Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, and Tonga’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Tonga’s Health Minister, Dr ‘Ana ʻAkau’ola, served as guest of honour, underlining the nation’s increasing emphasis on holistic wellness.
International Yoga Day, proclaimed by the UN in 2015, promotes the physical, mental and spiritual benefits of yoga. Across the Pacific, countries including New Zealand, Fiji and Papua New Guinea joined Tonga in hosting events, drawing participants from both local and international communities .
Attendees experienced guided sessions, meditation, breathing exercises and wellness talks, capped off with a light morning tea courtesy of the organisers’ invitation.

Tongan organisers described yoga as “a powerful tool for inner peace and harmony” and welcomed both seasoned practitioners and newcomers.
