India will provide a financial assistance package of $500,000 to Vanuatu to support rehabilitation and rebuilding of infrastructure damaged by an earthquake that hit the Pacific island nation on December 17, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Thursday.
The 7.4 magnitude quake caused extensive destruction and loss of life near Vanuatu’s coast in the South Pacific Ocean that left 14 dead and over 200 injured.
Several commercial and residential buildings, embassies and a hospital collapsed as a result of the powerful earthquake.
