Tonga marked International Women’s Day 2025 this week with vibrant events across the nation, highlighting women’s resilience and unity.
The Women and Children Crisis Centre (WCCC) organized a competition uniting 16 women’s groups from Tongatapu, Vava’u, and ‘Eua. Hon. Frederica Tuita praised the participants, saying, “From powerful performances to heartfelt collaborations, these women showcased resilience, creativity, and the unstoppable spirit of sisterhood.”

The Australian government supported this empowering event, amplifying voices and fostering opportunities for women across Tonga. The Women Leading and Influence (WLI) Tonga team acknowledged Australia’s support in providing platforms for Tongan women leaders in all sectors.
The Tonga Women in ICT (TWICT) hosted a panel titled ‘Accelerating Change,’ featuring women from diverse backgrounds sharing their journeys. The event emphasized resilience and the collective strength in shaping the future.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs commemorated the day with the theme “Marching forward with courage and determination,” celebrating the bravery of women and girls.
Hon. Sinai Tu’itahi highlighted that Tonga’s enrolment rate for girls stands at 99% in primary education and 68% in secondary education, reflecting the ambition and capability of Tongan women.
