Japan has provided a much-needed chemical fire truck to Haʻapai Airport, addressing a critical shortage of emergency vehicles at the facility.
The donation was formalized last week through the Grant Assistance for the Grass-Roots Human Security Project (GGP), signed by Japan’s Ambassador to Tonga, H.E. Mr. INAGAKI Hisao, and Mr. Edgar Cocker, CEO of Tonga Airports Limited (TAL).
The fire truck aims to enhance safety and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements at Haʻapai Airport, which has lacked proper emergency response capabilities.
Ambassador INAGAKI emphasized the importance of the project, stating that it would improve safety and preparedness at Ha’apai Airport.
Deputy Chairman of the TAL Board of Directors, Mr. Michael Bloomfield, expressed gratitude for Japan’s continued support and looked forward to further enriching the friendship between Japan and Tonga.
This initiative is part of Japan’s broader efforts to support Tonga’s infrastructure development through the GGP, reinforcing its commitment to enhancing aviation safety in the Pacific region.
