On Tuesday, October 1, His Majesty King Tupou VI and Her Majesty Queen Nanasipau’u of Tonga were warmly welcomed at the Seventh-day Adventist World Headquarters in Maryland. The visit was hosted by Ted N.C. Wilson, President of the Worldwide Adventist Church, who shared the special event on social media.
King Tupou VI presented Wilson with a hand-carved fish hook made from whale bone and mother-of-pearl, symbolizing the Christian calling to be “fishers of men.” Their Majesties also toured the Adventist Archives, where Director David Trim gave a presentation on the church’s history in Tonga.

The royal party later visited the Ellen G. White Estate, where Director Merlin Burt explained Ellen White’s role in the church’s foundation. The visit concluded with a multimedia presentation at the Ellen White Visitors’ Center.
Given their interest in health, the King and Queen appreciated a presentation by Dr. Peter Landless, GC Health Ministries Director. The visit ended with a luncheon in honour of Their Majesties, where Wilson shared words of encouragement from the Bible.
