Primary school students in Tonga showcased their culinary talents at the “Mai e 5” Kids Cooking Competition last week at Tanoa International Hotel with Kolomotu’a Primary School taking home first prize of $500, followed by Popua in second place with $300, and Longolongo in third with $200.
Five schools participated in the competition: Kolomotu’a, Longolongo, Halaovave, Popua, and Ngeleia Government Primary Schools.
Each team displayed skills in growing, preparing, and presenting dishes focused on fruits and vegetables.
The event highlighted the importance of choosing fresh, nutritious foods, aiming to inspire lifelong healthy eating habits among children.
By engaging young students, the initiative encourages healthier choices and builds knowledge on nutritious food preparation in Tonga.
“Mai e 5” is part of a broader program to improve student health and well-being through education on the benefits of a balanced diet.
