The Speaker of Parliament, Lord Fakafanua, has called for urgent climate action at the XII Global Baku Forum.
The forum, themed “Rethinking the World Order: Turning Challenges into Opportunities,” convened global leaders in Baku, Azerbaijan, last week.

Lord Fakafanua participated in the panel “COP29: Breakthrough to Belém – Accelerating Transformation,” addressing climate justice and the important role of small island nations in climate negotiations.
He emphasized the urgency of climate action, highlighting the existential threat faced by small island developing states.
The panel featured notable figures, including Maimunah Mohd Sharif, Mayor of Kuala Lumpur; María Fernanda Espinosa, former President of the UN General Assembly; and Phoebe Koundouri, President of the World Environmental and Resource Economists Association.
Discussions centered on accelerating transformation ahead of COP30 in Belém, Brazil, with a focus on enhancing climate finance and amplifying the voices of vulnerable nations.

The Global Baku Forum, organized by the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, has established itself as a premier event for addressing pressing global challenges.
Participants highlighted the necessity for collaborative and innovative solutions to build a resilient and inclusive world order.
The forum concluded with a renewed commitment to turning global challenges into opportunities for growth, unity, and progress.
