A 27‑year‑old Ánanā man has been arrested after police seized drugs and paraphernalia during a raid.
Police say the Tonga Police Drugs Squad acted on a tip and arrested a 27‑year‑old male in Ánana for alleged drug dealing. Officers found illicit substances and utensils on him, then searched his home, discovering more drugs, paraphernalia and cash.
Selective operations targeting drugs have intensified recently across Tongatapu. In early June, police arrested a 21‑year‑old probationary constable in Nuku‘alofa for drug possession alongside two others during a simultaneous enforcement action. Earlier, a 25‑year‑old man was arrested in Afā with cannabis and cash, with methamphetamine and paraphernalia also seized in coordinated raids.
Police Commissioner Geoff Turner reiterated, “Drug use and supply will not be tolerated in any way,” reiterating the priority of community safety.
Tonga Police emphasise their “zero‑tolerance stance on drug use and supply,” urging public assistance in reporting suspicious activity. The 27‑year‑old from Ánana is now in custody as investigations continue.
Police operations over the weekend included alcohol‑ and drug‑related arrests, with 51 individuals detained during broader safety blitzes.
