A delegation of Tongan media leaders, including two Pacific Islands News Association (PINA) Board members, is visiting Port Moresby from March 25 to 29 to strengthen regional media collaboration.
The delegation, comprising prominent Tongan journalists and executives, includes PINA President Kalafi Moala and PINA Board Representative for Radio, Katalina Tohi. Senior executives from the Media Association of Tonga, including Tonga Broadcasting Commission CEO Viola Ulakai, are also part of the visit.
While in Papua New Guinea, the group will tour major state and corporate broadcasters, the University of Papua New Guinea Journalism School, and media houses such as the Post-Courier.
Post-Courier General Manager Frank Genaia welcomed the delegation, sharing insights into print media’s enduring role in PNG. “Many communities still rely on the physical paper, and each edition has a high ‘person rate,’ meaning multiple people read a single copy.”
The delegation will also attend the PNG National Press Club’s first event of the year on March 26, fostering further discussions on the future of Pacific journalism.
Members of the visiting delegation include:
- Kalafi Moala (Talanoa ‘o Tonga Editor)
- Katalina Tohi (BroadCom 89.5FM, Managing Director)
- Maria Marian Kupu (Pacific Local Journalism Network Journalist)
- Talita Ole He Ofa Tu’ipulotu (Media Association of Tonga Secretary)
