The Ministry of Meteorology, Energy, Information, Disaster Management, Environment, Climate Change, and Communications (MEIDECC) has issued a statement regarding misleading advertisements circulating on social media. These advertisements, from a company named Lightspeed Pacific, falsely claim that the company is authorised to sell Starlink hardware and services in Tonga.
MEIDECC. which is the Regulator for Communications, clarified that the only authorised resellers of Starlink services in Tonga are TokoWireless Ltd (Wantok) and Digicel Tonga Ltd. Also, the authorisation process for Tonga Communication Corporation is still in progress and not yet finalised.
“We urge the public to exercise caution when considering any purchases from Lightspeed Pacific,” said Sione Akau’ola, CEO for MEIDECC. “Any transactions with this company may result in no service activation or potential confiscation of hardware at the border, with a possibility of no return.”
To ensure legitimate services, the ministry advises purchasing Starlink products only from the authorised resellers or through the official website at www.starlink.com.
For further information, the public is asked to contact the MEIDECC.
