Pacific digital creator Meleane Fifita is determined to bring more attention to talent and organizations in the Pacific region, helping them expand their horizons. Fifita was one of 30 participants selected to attend the Young Pacific Leaders Media and Literacy Workshop, held in Tonga last week.
In an interview with Pacific Media Network, she expressed her gratitude for the opportunity. “I’m very, very lucky to be one of the 30 people selected,” she said.
Fifita’s passion for community work led her to volunteer as head of media and content for the Queensland Tonga Rugby League, a new program she helped grow through media efforts. Her work caught the eye of Brisbane broadcaster Sulieni Layt, who mentored her and helped her transition into Pacific TV and radio.
This experience inspired Fifita to establish her own digital media company, Mafana Media. At the workshop, participants gained insights into media literacy, journalism, and critical regional issues like climate change and sustainability.
Fifita hopes to use the skills learned from the workshop to support Pacific organizations in securing sponsorships and thriving economically. “I want to learn how to develop skills that will help organizations grow,” she said.
