Minister for Internal Affairs, Hon Sinaitakala Tu’itahi, is leading the nation’s delegation at the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69) in New York, marking the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration. The event serves as a key global moment for gender equality and women’s empowerment.
The minister will represent the Pacific region at the session, where Tonga chairs the Pacific Islands Forum. “It is an honor to participate in such a pivotal event for women’s rights,” Tu’itahi said, adding that her delegation’s participation highlights Tonga’s commitment to advancing gender equality.
While in New York, Minister Tu’itahi also engaged in key discussions with the Tonga Permanent Representative and the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat. The team was also invited to join the Switzerland Mission’s commemoration of the Beijing Anniversary and attended the Commonwealth National Women’s Machinery Annual Consultation.
The CSW69 session, beginning March 10, 2025, focuses on implementing the Beijing Platform for Action, setting the global agenda for women’s rights and gender equality over the past three decades.
