The 2025 Miss Pacific Islands Pageant, held in Honiara, Solomon Islands, has come under scrutiny following allegations of irregularities in the judging process. Reports circulating on social media suggest discrepancies between the judges’ votes and the final outcome.
According to a post in the ‘Yumi Toktok’ Facebook group, it was claimed that among the five judges, representatives from Tonga, Solomon Islands, and Papua New Guinea allegedly voted for Miss Tonga, while two others supported Miss Samoa.
Despite this, Miss Samoa was crowned the winner. The post further alleges that one judge withheld the original score sheets before submitting altered results.
Viliami Takau, Chief Executive Officer of Tonga’s Ministry of Tourism, confirmed to Talanoa o Tonga News that he has been briefed on the allegations regarding the judging and the winner. He added that the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant Board of Directors is scheduled to meet to discuss the matter.
Pageant organizers have not yet issued an official statement regarding the allegations. The Pacific community awaits further clarification.
Following the Pageant Board of Directors meeting last Wednesday, it issued this statement, “The Board remains committed to the MPIP’s continued growth and impact, ensuring it remains a platform of excellence, cultural pride, and opportunity.”
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Tourism and Tonga Tourism have announced a special homecoming celebration for Racheal Guttenbeil. Friends, family, and supporters are invited to welcome her at Fua‘amotu Airport just after midnight tonight..
“She has represented Tonga with grace and pride at the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant in Honiara, Solomon Islands, and now it’s time to show her our love, support, and warm hugs!” the ministry said in a statement.
