The Tonga Meteorological Service has issued a heavy rain warning and flash flood advisory for the land areas of Tongatapu, ‘Eua, Ha’apai, and Vava’u.
An active trough is currently stationary over these regions and is expected to persist throughout the week, bringing associated clouds, heavy occasional rain, and thunderstorms.
In response, the National Disaster Response Office has alerted the public to the possibility of flooding in low-lying and coastal areas due to ongoing heavy rainfall. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions, avoid flooded roads, and move to higher ground if needed.
The office of the Member of Parliament for Tongatapu Constituency Number 1 announced on social media that residents facing flooding should evacuate to the Mele Siuilikutapu hall.
Residents are urged to stay informed of weather updates and follow the advice of local authorities to ensure safety during this period of adverse weather conditions.
