The quake’s epicenter was near Mandalay, Myanmar’s second-largest city, causing significant destruction in both countries. In Myanmar, at least 144 people have been confirmed dead, with over 730 injured.
In Bangkok, Thailand, the tremors led to the collapse of a 30-story building under construction, resulting in multiple fatalities. Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra declared the city an emergency zone.
Australian television personality Sophie Monk was in Bangkok during the earthquake, staying on the 52nd floor of a hotel. She described the experience as terrifying, sharing videos of the evacuation and expressing gratitude for the kindness of strangers who assisted her.
Rescue operations are underway, with international aid being mobilized. The death toll is expected to rise as search efforts continue.
