Tonga Women in ICT (TWICT) hosted the National ICT Expo 2025 in Nuku’alofa yesterday.
Held at Queen Salote Memorial Hall, the event was themed “Empowering a Resilient Digital Tonga.” It brought together tech leaders, government officials, and community members to discuss the nation’s digital transformation.
Acting Prime Minister Hon. Taniela Fusimalohi officially launched TWICT’s new website, praising the organisation’s commitment. “What TWICT is doing is driven by passion. It is the core of what we do. Without passion, we won’t go as far as we can,” he said.
The U.S. Embassy and Acting Australian High Commissioner Erin Gleeson attended the opening ceremony, highlighting international support for Tonga’s digital growth.
A key feature of the expo was a panel hosted by the Media Association of Tonga titled “Reporting in the Brave New World: The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Press Freedom and the Media.”
Various organisations and businesses representing the ICT sector showcased their services across the venue.
TWICT, founded in 2018 and registered as an NGO in 2021, aims to empower women to pursue careers in ICT through training, workshops, and research. The expo supports its role in shaping Tonga’s tech future.
