The Ministry of Trade and Economic Development (MTED) has announced the launch of its revamped Business Registry online system, set to go live on 9 December 2024.
This upgrade promises to streamline processes for businesses in Tonga, offering fully online filings, integrated foreign investment certificates, and secure payment options.
For the first time, users can also access Foreign Investment Certificates through the system.
“All filings required under the Company, Business Licence, Registration of Business Names, and the Foreign Investment laws will now be completely online,” MTED announced, highlighting the inclusion of secure online payment options for more convenience.
Current data and accounts will be migrated to the platform, and businesses are urged to verify their information upon first login.
There will be no fees for initial updates during the transition period.
Business related regulations and fee schedules will also be accessible on the platform.
MTED is providing guides and resources to ensure a smooth transition. Businesses can contact the Business Registry Office for support or inquiries.
Tonga initially launched its electronic business registry in 2014, becoming the first Pacific Island nation to provide a fully integrated online system for company and business information.
“With this innovative registry, Tongans can now file their documents and search the registry online,” the ministry said at the time, adding that the system provided efficiency and transparency.
The new upgrade builds on this legacy, making business interactions more accessible and convenient.
