Prime Minister ʻAisake Valu Eke has formally sworn in new Public Service Commission leaders.
Cabinet appointed Ms Tai‘atu ‘Ata‘ata as Chairperson, Mr Daniel Kimball Fale as Deputy Chair, along with Commissioners Dr Siale ‘Akau‘ola, Mr Sateki ‘Ahio and Ms Katrina Fatiaki.
The commissioners signed their employment contracts yesterday with Hon Dr ‘Aisake Valu Eke, at the Prime Minister’s Office.
The Tonga Public Service Act 2002 mandates a five‑member Commission to oversee recruitment, appointments, promotions, discipline, and performance management across 16 Ministries and 4 agencies. The new team is tasked with strengthening merit‑based appointments and HR standards across the public service.
Prime Minister Eke emphasised the Commission will “provide oversight and leadership of the public service including recruitment of public servants”, signalling a renewed focus on institutional integrity.
This reshuffle comes amid broader public sector reforms under PM Eke’s leadership, who himself assumed office in January 2025 and is steering Tonga towards the general elections scheduled by 30 November 2025.
