HMAF 72nd Basic Recruit Intake Graduation at Taliai Camp
During the 72nd Basic Recruit Intake Passing Out Parade held on May 26th at Taliai Camp in Fua’amotu, Recruit Lopeti Nisa received prestigious honors. He was recognized as the recipient of two distinguished awards, namely the Best Overall Recruit and the Best in Physical Training, by the HMAF (His Majesty’s Armed Forces).
PM says progress on Sendai Framework for disaster risk reduction is worrisome
Last week, Tonga’s Prime Minister, Hon. Hu’akavameiliku, participated in a High-Level Meeting on the Mid-Term Review of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030 (HLM) held in New York. During the meeting, Prime Minister Hon. Hu’akavameiliku expressed his concerns regarding the lack of progress made by Pacific Island Countries in achieving the desired outcomes outlined in the Sendai Framework.
French Ambassador to Tonga visits PM
The Prime Minister of Tonga, Hon. Hu’akavameiliku, received a courtesy visit from the French Ambassador to the Kingdom of Tonga, HE Mr. François-Xavier Leger.
During the meeting, the two dignitaries engaged in discussions covering various bilateral matters and strengthening the ties between Tonga and France. The courtesy call provided an opportunity for both parties to exchange views on areas of mutual interest, including diplomatic cooperation, development initiatives, cultural exchanges, and potential areas of collaboration.
Japan donates vans to Fisheries for sector recovery
The Government of Japan has generously provided assistance to the Tonga Ministry of Fisheries by donating five Toyota Land Cruisers. This support aims to aid the recovery of the fisheries sector following the volcanic eruption and tsunamis that occurred in Hunga-Tonga Hunga-Ha’apai in 2022.
The donation of the Toyota Land Cruisers serves as a valuable contribution to the efforts of the Tonga Ministry of Fisheries in restoring and strengthening their operations. These vehicles will assist in various aspects of the sector’s recovery, including facilitating transportation for staff, equipment, and resources, enabling the ministry to efficiently carry out their crucial work.
