In a first for Tonga, SOURCE Global, PBC, and the Tonga Water Board have joined forces to deliver a transformative water project for the island of Nomuka in Ha’apai.
The initiative, called the Nomuka Project, will use cutting-edge solar technology to create clean drinking water directly from the air, requiring no external water sources, piping, or power infrastructure.
“This world-leading solution will revolutionize water access in Nomuka,” said Peter Stevenson, a key figure in the initiative, who is in Tonga to plan the project’s opening ceremony with the Tonga Water Board.
Stevenson is also meeting with stakeholders to ensure the project’s successful scaling.

The solar panels for the project are set to arrive in Nuku’alofa between January 23 and 30 before being transported to Nomuka for installation in early February.
The installation is expected to be completed by the end of March, followed by commissioning shortly thereafter.

This groundbreaking project addresses water scarcity in remote areas and highlights the potential of innovative technology to drive sustainable development.
