The police have charged over 300 individuals during its festive season Fa’asolo operation, which began last Monday.
Acting Deputy Police Commissioner Halatoa Taufa confirmed to Tonga Broadcasting that 327 people have been charged for various offenses, with 66 of them arrested, including women.
The majority of those arrested were charged for being intoxicated in public places. Over two hundred individuals were charged with road offenses, including driving without licenses, speeding, and not wearing seatbelts.
Other arrests involved individuals causing public disorder and domestic violence related to excessive alcohol consumption.

While arrests typically rise during the festive season, Taufa said that there was a decrease in housebreak-ins and other serious crimes, although thefts have increased.
He also reported that no fatalities occurred during the operation.
A total of 286 police officers are currently working during the operation to maintain public safety.
The Fa’asolo Operation ends this weekend.
